What a Champions League player must be

You are entering the field hearing the Champions League hymn. The fans sing “You will never walk alone” to support your team. Looking around you can find two or three people with posters asking you to give them your t-shirt… what a great ambience in this Champions League match!

The match starts and you badly realize that your dream came true: you are now playing the Champions League. You have a team who will fight from the first until the last minute to win the championship!
Well, it’s better to stop dreaming… let me be honest with you: it will not happen during your Erasmus Champions League in Coimbra. There won’t be millions of fans supporting you nor posters asking for your t-shirt. But once you are there you will understand that you already have a team, a group of people who will do the best to enjoy this Champions League from the first match til the final victory!

You will probably understand that some of the players you have on your team would be more successful as singers or dancers than they are as football players – and they don’t even know how to sing or to dance! You can even find that it will be impossible to win the tournament with such a bad group of players …
At the end of the tournament you can have lost all the matches… but you will want to have a team dinner and, which is more, you will have a new group of friends.

And suddenly you realize that all those football players – the good and the bad ones – are already your team. And that they will be there until the end of your Erasmus in Coimbra. 
Ah… do you know your fat goalkeeper? Well… he won’t save any goal during the tournament but he will be the best guy drinking beer, wine and shots. He will be THE MAN in your team-dinner, in your first hang out together and during the ESN parties!
Yes, there will only be one team winning the tournament. But at least you will be able to say, when you come back home, that you have played the Champions League at least once! And that you’ve played with the only (fat) goalkeeper that have never failed a penalty in Coimbra!

Summer Festivals in Portugal

OPTIMUS PRIMAVERA SOUND (30 Maio - 01 Junho)
O Optimus Primavera Sound é um festival musical anual introduzido em 2012 no
Porto, mais precisamente no Parque da Cidade (aproximadamente 6km a noroeste do centro
da cidade), e realiza-se em fins de Maio/inícios de Junho. O Festival é conhecido pela sua
programação eclética, pelo foco na música independente, e apresenta bandas recém-criadas.
A gama de géneros musicais inclui: alternativo, indie, electrónica, pop, hip hop, dance, folk,
jazz, metal, e música experimental. Algumas das bandas mais notáveis que actuaram na
edição anterior(2012): M83, Wilco, The Rapture, The XX, The Walkmen, Yo La Tengo, Beach
House, The Flaming Lips, The Drums, Suede.
A edição deste ano realiza-se entre 30 de Maio e 1 de Junho, com o passe geral a
custar 110€ no Portal Primavera Sound, e conta com nomes como: Blur, Explosions in The
Sky, My Bloody Valentine, Dead Can Dance, Grizzly Bear e Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Mais

OPTIMUS ALIVE (12-14 Julho)
O Optimus Alive, é um festival de música e artes, que se realiza anualmente em Algés,
Portugal. A primeira edição ocorreu em 2007. Embora a sua criação tenha sido recente, o
festival já atingiu uma considerável popularidade, dentro e fora do país, tendo sido já feito parte
do top12 de Festivais Europeus em 2009 pela UK Magazine NME.
A edição deste ano está planeada para os dias entre 12 e 14 de Julho. As bandas já
confirmadas para o festival incluem: Green Day, Vampire Weekend, Two Door Cinema Club,
Depeche Mode, Editors, Kings of Leon, Phoenix, Alt-J, e Tame Impala. Mais serão anunciados
brevemente. Os preços dos bilhetes variam entre 53€, para os bilhetes diários, e 121€ para o

SUPER BOCK SUPER ROCK (18-20 Julho)
O Super Bock Super Rock é um festival de música que se realiza no Verão,
anualmente. Teve início em 1995, e é actualmente um dos festivais mais importantes
portugueses, e realiza-se junto à praia do Meco, em Sesimbra.
A edição deste ano decorre entre os dias 18 e 20 de Julho. Algumas bandas já
confirmadas são: Arctic Monkeys, Toy, Efterklang, The Killers, Kaiser Chiefds, Queens of the
Stone Age, e Digitalism (DJ Set). O bilhete diário tem um custo de 48€, e o passe de 3 dias tem
um custo de 90€ com campismo incluído. Alguns pontos de venda são: TicketLine, lojas Fnac e

What? Festival Santos da Casa
When? April 5th to 24th
And that is... our dear colleages at RUC from Santos da Casa (a show with Portuguese music) are   organizing this festival to showcase the wide range of bands that are from Portugal. It will include various concerts over this time, starting on Friday, 5th, with a Hip-Hop show from Coimbra's own Ruze Soldado Zeru and Capicua from Porto at States Club around midnight. Entry costs 5€. At the aftershow party, the RUC DJs from Suburbano will heat up the dancefloor!

What? Blues & Beyond
When? April
And that is... the month of April at Salão Brazil is entirely dedicated to new ways of interpreting Blues. It started yesterday with Caustic Roll Dave, for all the showcases check their events page, and make sure to get your tickets! The prices are ranging from 10€ for an all-show ticket, 8€ for a weekend ticket to 3€ for a one-show ticket.

What? Festival do Cinema Italiano 2013
When? till April 5th
And that is... After the French film festival, now Italian cinema is coming to Coimbra. Don't miss their final showings, to get a better insight in Italy's florishing new cinema scene and soul. Ticket prices are 3€ for students, and 12€ the general ticket for all shows.

Projecto iniciado em junho de 2012, caracterizado pela grande energia que o grupo transmite ao público, levando o jazz a locais menos convencionais e que tem conseguido em pouco tempo criar um público fiel ao seu trabalho, apenas em 2 meses realizou 18 concertos pela região centro.

Filme francês vencedor do prêmio Palma de ouro no festival de Cannes do ano de 2012 e do Globo de Ouro do Melhor Filme também. Realização de Michel Haneke. O filme fala de um casal de musicos idosos e acontece um acidente com a mulher, nesse meio tempo o casal tem que de por a prova o amor que sentem um pelo outro. O filme é um drama e dura aproximadamente 2 horas e 5 minutos com intervalo.

Preço: Entrada livre para os sócios filak e cineclube e 1 Euro para o público em geral

Filme francês também, do gênero thriller (suspense). Realização de Julie Dassin, do ano de 1955. O filme fala de um plano ambicioso de assalto, que começa a dar errado quando um dos membros do grupo comete um erro.

GPS - Onde estudar?

As cantinas do Polo III no mês de janeiro trazem uma nova opção de estudos para os alunos. Agora aberta ate às 4 da manhã, funcionam como uma sala de estudos, uma vez que antes disso, só havía a opção da biblioteca para os alunos que moram nos arredores da Universidade. Com isso, a cantina funcionará com um serviço de sopas e baguetes até às 8:30 da noite, e depois haverá uma maquina de café disponivel para os alunos durante toda a noite.

Para quem não sabe, há outros espaços de estudo para os estudantes da Universidade de Coimbra. No Polo I, existem várias salas de estudo, uma delas por exemplo no Colégio São Jeronimo. Há também espaço na cantina do 5° piso. Na Associação Académica, também há uma sala de estudos.

What to do for New Year's Eve in Coimbra?

What? From 28th to 31st, there are going to take place different workshops and concert of European music and dance, finishing off in a great presentation on the last day of 2012 - (for further information: http://www.passagem-de-ano.net/)
How much? An over-all ticket for all days is 50€, but it is possible to buy single tickets for single concerts and/or workshops.

Where? Aqui Base Tango (Coimbra)
What? Aqui Base Tango is a concept bar/club/café in Coimbra, and offers a special New Year's Eve celebration for you. The festivities start around 22.30h and signing up for a table is possible by sending an email to junglepolis[at]gmail.com

Also many hotels offer New Year's Eve parties, you can just google that and choose according to your preferences.

Or why not going on a little trip to the capital? Lisbon holds a great deal of festivities for you: the bonfires and public spaces where many people go to celebrate are at Parque das Nacoes, Torre de Belém and Praca do Comercio.
Hotels do offer parties, too and the Casino is organizing their annual celebration.

Or staying a bit more close to Coimbra, Figueira da Foz is hosting a free "Passagem do Ano" at the beach. They're having DJ sets, bonfires and fireworks, concerts and a lot more. And it's on the beach!

 What? "Entre o Tango e o Fado", show about exactly these two musical registers. Hosted by Joao Gentil, a great singer, quite famous in Coimbra, special guests include Rita Marques and Nuno Silva will sing tangos. It's a great chance to discover the mix of these traditional music styles!

Pieces of Brazil in Coimbra
